Exercise: over and above.

The differences between over, above and across.

Fill in the spaces with the prepositions: above, over, across. Sometimes there are TWO possible answers but write ONE answer.

Example:
We watched the birds fly             the lake.

Answer:
across     ("over" is also possible)

 

1) The snow was so high it was the rooves of the cars.

2) We saw a strange object in the sky the farmhouse.

3) Tower Bridge goes the River Thames.

4) She was looking the sea to the other side.

5) There was a thin layer of ice the road.

6) I put some pink sugar all the cake.

7) The newspaper said there were a thousand people at the demonstration.

8) I've collected 500 stamps.

9) The average temperature is three degrees freezing in winter.

10) Mount Everest is over 8,000 metres sea-level.
